The SaySomethingin Method forces your brain to build new synapses - you'll be able to feel it happening! - and that's what turns you into a confident Welsh speaker.
You can do our audio lessons on the go - commuting, walking the dog, washing the dishes - and you have easy options for group video practice sessions (which you can also join from your mobile).
You just do what you actually need - no time wasted on pointless games or boring classroom exercises - just pure, powerful learning that makes you speak Welsh.
Each week, you will receive a set of tasks (via email and/or your online control panel). They'll never take you more than 1 hour a week - and you choose when to complete them.
You can join one (or more!) live group video practice sessions each week - they run every weekday morning at 10, every weekday afternoon at 4, and at 7 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. (You don't have to attend every week - some people succeed without using them at all - but they're always there to help you practise when you want.)
You also have access to friendly, English language video Q&A sessions at 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays or 9.30 on Wednesday mornings.
A member of our art group was cajoling a few more people into the local Welsh learners' conversation sessions. Whilst telling a colleague that any standard of Welsh was fine, she said "Mind you, people from Say Something In Welsh are streets ahead of everybody else!"
If you complete the tasks each week, you will have had your first conversation in less than 6 months from now. (It will feel limited and a bit slow, but you'll know it was real communication.) People who've been learning for 6 months on a traditional course will look at you with a mixture of horror and jealousy.
In less than 12 months, you'll have had your first conversation that lasts for a full HOUR (and you'll know that if you really needed to, you'd be able to get by without using any English - if we dropped you in a Welsh-speaking village in Patagonia, for example!). People who've done 12 months on a traditional course will be stunned when they see your confidence.
The further you go past the first 12 months, the more confident and expressive you'll be, and the easier you'll find it all.
Just realised that today marks precisely six years since I started Course 1, Lesson 1, little dreaming what the consequences would be… Learning Welsh has opened access to a whole world of social interactions that simply couldn’t happen otherwise - not in the same way anyway. It has immensely enriched what goes on in my head, with more than twice the number of ways of expressing myself and Welsh bubbling through every thought or activity. It has given me a means to appreciate a whole new world of literature, a renewed enthusiasm for politics and social change, and a chance to participate.
THANK YOU Catrin Lliar, Aran, Cat and Iestyn and all the wonderful SSiW learners I’ve met (whether in brief interactions or lasting friendships) for making all this possible.
Diolch o galon i chi. x
If you hate it straight away, let us know, and we'll immediately refund your first month's tenner.
If you want to stop your monthly payments - at any time, for any reason - you can. You're NEVER locked in.
Or, after you've done a year with this approach, if you're not happy with what you've achieved, just let us know, and we'll refund you IN FULL.
I started the SSiW course in August, knowing only some basic words in Welsh. Today, just 4 months later, I was watching a new S4C drama in Welsh, and on Wednesday I had an hour long conversation in Welsh - about languages, countries and future plans :). And I have achieved all this OUTSIDE a Welsh-speaking environment, so that is all thanks to SSiW. And I consider myself a very bad student, due to the circumstances that didn’t let me devote as much time to Welsh as I would have loved to. My friends here are doing much, much better. So, I have no doubt that SSi is simply amazing.
I started SSiW just over two years ago, for the sole reason that I couldn't get out to evening classes with two small children (starting at Welsh school).
I soon realised I'd stumbled across the most inspired and liberating approach to language learning imaginable! I completed all the audio-based course lessons while driving to work or doing housework, and found myself with a solid basis in the language which would have taken years of time and effort to achieve through traditional classes.
I learned French at school, Italian at university, and German and sign language at evening classes. So I thought I was a bit of an expert in the whole language-learning thing and was a little sceptical about the SSiW approach. But as I was living in England and couldn't get to 'proper' classes it was a convenient way for me to start learning. Then a few lessons into the course I realised that this was something completely different. It was like you'd taken the useful bit of the conventional classes (actually putting sentences together out of your own brain) and jettisoned all the rest of the time-wasting stuff. I was delighted!
If you're not delighted, just let us know, and we'll refund you that first month's payment.
Otherwise, instead of paying £2,500 for our 5 day residential intensives, or even £500 a day for our on-site business coaching (for a minimum of 10 days), you'll just pay £10 a month (which you can cancel at ANY time).
Yes, if you do the tasks and exercises that we set you - because they're all designed to trigger actual neurological change, so it's impossible to go through them without creating and strengthening the memories you need - as Jeremy Vine found out live on Radio 2. This just genuinely works.
No. You can work when (and where) you like. You can work through the material in exactly 6 minutes a day if you want, or you can do occasional 30 minute sessions - you can even leave it for a few weeks and then catch up in a couple of hours. The longest gap anyone's taken so far is 16 months - and he was then able to carry on from exactly where he left off.
No, you don't. You'll start to USE normal, grammatical Welsh sentences because of the way we train your brain to recognise how to put words together - but you don't need ANY formal understanding of how it works, just as you don't need to know all the 'rules' for English. And we actually prefer it if you don't write anything down - it helps put the right kind of pressure on your brain to improve your speaking and understanding.
We do, but it's too expensive for most learners (our 5 day residential intensives cost a minimum of £2,500 and our work with organisations is £500 a day). Our online courses are how we make our uniquely powerful approach affordable for everyone, and our friendly and enthusiastic community (where our tutors also answer questions) will probably be all the extra support you need.
Well, we're biased! It's certainly more convenient than being locked in to an evening class, and it's a much faster process. And we've got the social element in our video group exercises and friendly support forum, as well as our meet-ups. But lots of people find that our courses also help them get the very best out of an evening class, if they want the extra face-to-face social interaction (but don't want to get locked into the normal fairly slow rates of progress in classroom learning).
No. You can cancel or change your subscription at any time.
The 6 Month course goes faster and needs more time commitment from you - you have to put in 3 to 4 hours a week, and we guarantee you'll be having confident conversations in just 6 months.
The 6 Minutes a Day course requires much less time, although it's still extremely powerful - you have to put in 6 minutes a day (or about 42 minutes a week if you prefer to do it in larger chunks), and we guarantee you'll be having confident conversations in a year from now.
