What is SSiS?
SaySomethinginSpanish is a course that focuses on helping people learn to speak and understand Spanish, and avoids wasting time on complicated grammar rules and reading/writing. Based on the latest research in language learning, the course provides downloadable MP3 files for free.
Because this is a new approach to learning a language, we advise you to start from lesson one whether you’re a total beginner or an experienced learner. The most important things to remember are:
1. Don’t worry! You learn better when you’re relaxed, so don’t be a perfectionist, and try to enjoy each lesson…:-)
2.Try to practice regularly. SSiS provides practice speaking and listening sessions you can use for this (the listening is particularly important). Making up your own sentences and listening to Spanish radio both help too. Practicing small chunks regularly (preferably daily) will be more helpful to you than doing large chunks less often.
3. Speak first, read and write later. Reading and writing are important skills, but before you know how to speak and understand the language, they can actually hinder progress. Your mind naturally interprets the things you read and it can have a subconscious effect on the way you pronounce words. It’s very important therefore that you get on board with the SSiS principle of learning to speak and understand Spanish first of all.

What about reading and writing Spanish?
The focus of this course is on speaking Spanish, and it is important that you accept that. We’re not saying that reading and writing don’t matter – just that you should leave them until later, because since you can already read and write English, you will find it very easy to read and write Spanish once you can speak it…:-)
Having said that, if you would like a contents list for the first six lessons, please click HERE. Just make sure that you only use it to check on words you’re really not sure about, and DON’T refer to it AT ALL while you’re actually listening to a lesson!
What do I do if I have a question?
Going through the course you may well come up with the occasional question/concern/headache.
You’re already checking the FAQ page – that’s great! If the answer to it isn’t here, then just leave us a comment at the bottom of this page, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
How can I help spread the word about SSiS?
It seems that Twitter and Facebook are the best ways to find other learners who are struggling with the courses they’re using at the moment – but mentions and/or links on any kind of websites, particularly communities where you are a respected member of the community, are all a huge help. And we’re very grateful indeed to everyone who helps spread the word about this course – the more people who do, the more learners we get, the more feedback we get, the closer we’ll get to building a perfect course!
You’ll notice, though, that we don’t try and force you to spread the word. We don’t run plugins that stop you getting the files unless you Tweet, or Like us on Facebook – we don’t hide ‘bonuses’ behind an ‘Email a friend’ spam generator – we just make the files available to you, and let you know when we have new lessons.
We figure that if you do like the course, you’ll spread the word without having to have your arm twisted…:-)
How do I type Spanish characters?
If you don’t have a European keyboard, you’ll probably find (as we do!) that the fastest way to get Spanish characters is to use the online tool at:
Have a question we haven’t answered here?
Please just leave a comment below, and we’ll answer it as soon as we possibly can (sometimes it might be within a few minutes, sometimes it might take a day or two, mostly depending on how my kids are behaving…;-)).
And if a question crops up a few times, we’ll move it up here into the FAQ section, and thank you very much for helping make the site a little bit better.
Gracias por tu trabajo

De nada! Gracias por tus gracias…;-)
Muy interesante. Espero mucho que el curso va a ayudarte!
I am looking for a Spanish course for my 14 year old son would this be suitable for him? Also, he does not have an mp3 player so is there any other way to do this?
Thanks
Hi Jacqui – we know of a lot of children even a fair bit younger than 14 who’ve used our similar Welsh course successfully, so there should be no problem there. If he doesn’t have an mp3 player, he’ll still be able to listen to the files on his/your computer…:-)
Hi, I was really enjoying the course and felt that I was learning very fast, but it doesn’t look like any new sessions have been added recently. Has the course stopped now or will there be more in the future? Hopefully there is more to come?
Hi Nicola – glad to hear you’ve been enjoying it so far! Marisol has been suffering with a very painful throat and unable to record – but we’ve found someone else who’s going to do some test recordings in the next few days, so hopefully we’ll have another lesson ready for you within a week or so…:-)
